What is the Political Courage Test?

Indiana Congressional Election 2024 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
No Do you support the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade?
Healthcare access and affordability is one of the most important issues we face. Americans can?t feel safe when they are ill and/or worried about how they will pay for an unforeseen catastrophic illness/injury. Strengthen healthcare protections and improve affordability by doing the following: Codifying Roe v. Wade into law Fight against any Republican attempt to privatize Medicare Prevent insurance companies from raising premiums when people become sick
Yes Do you support expanding federal funding to support social safety net programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
No Do you support a decrease in income taxes in order to balance the budget?
No Do you support a wealth tax in order to pay for public programs?
A decrease in taxes will not help balance the budget no matter how you spin that. I believe not in a wealth tax but revamping the code so that taxes are more equitable.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations, unions, and individuals?
We must curtail dark money from politics.
No Do you support protecting government officials, including law enforcement officers, from personal liability in civil lawsuits concerning alleged misconduct?
All government officials should be held to higher standards.
Unknown Position Do you support increasing defense spending?
I am not sure, I would need to see what and where we are asking for an increase so I could make an informed decision.
Yes Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth (e.g. grants, tax incentives)?
Yes Do you support the federal government increasing funding for affordable housing programs?
Yes Do you support the federal government taking action, beyond those of the Federal Reserve, to alleviate inflation?
Yes Do you support the forgiveness of federal student loan debt?
I wish that for any debt forgiven they would instead restructure. Many of these loans are predatory and if restructured would have been paid off years ago. Companies should be penalized for predatory lending to students.
Unknown Position Do you support requiring a government-issued identification in order to vote at the polls?
I would support this if it was free to all and the method to obtain it was very easy. In most cases, the folks that are marginalized are the ones that have a hard time getting an id. Travelling to get it, or having "proof" can be cumbersome especially for the elderly.
Yes Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
No Do you support the federal government allowing permits for drilling on public lands?
Yes Do you generally support gun-control legislation (e.g. red flag laws, boyfriend loopholes)?
We must keep guns out of the hands of abusers and those who have done or threatened harm.
Yes Do you support a government-run (e.g. single-payer) healthcare program, such as Medicare-for-All?
Yes Do you support expanding paid family AND/OR medical leave benefits (e.g. maternity leave)?
Yes Should the government be able to regulate the cost of prescription drugs?
Yes Do you support increasing security along the southern US border?
Unknown Position Do you support requiring immigrants to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship, regardless of their immigration status?
I am not sure about returning to the country of origin, only because I cannot see the why behind it, except to cause financial hardship.
Yes Do you support economic intervention as a means of resolving international conflicts?
Yes Do you support the US providing increased offensive military aid to Ukraine?
Unknown Position Do you generally support increased regulations on social media companies (e.g. Tik Tok, Facebook, etc.)?
I would like to see stronger protections in place for minors.
This is the most important election of our lifetimes. My top goal is to work with other congresspersons who are dedicated to protecting and strengthening our democracy. I support the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which restores the Voting Rights Act to its full power, and I will vote to pass the Freedom to Vote Act, which will help remove big money from politics and ban gerrymandering. This would require no extra funding, the bills are ready to be passed. I will also work to immediately pass legislation that codifies Roe v. Wade into law, as your basic human rights should not be determined by your geographical location. Additionally, I will protect access to in vitro fertilization (IVF) and fight any attempts to limit access to contraception. Again, no additional funding needed to protect women's healthcare. There is a bill in the senate, it would just need to be passed and then sent to the house. Passing the current immigration bill is also a goal. This is ready to go and will have additional cost. I believe that a way to pay for this is to actually crack down on employers who hire the undocumented folks and pay them under the table. All humans should be treated with respect and allowed to join our county as tax paying citizens. Unlike my opponent, I won?t play politics with bills and will work hard from day one to ensure that all of Congress is working for the good of the people, not for someone?s ego and not for special interests.
